Throughout history, we have depended on the idea of "survival of the fittest" as a skill set for evolution. In the prehistoric ages, man made tools were used for hunting and gathering. The athleticism of an individual in hunting determined their overall physique. Later on, Persian empires and roman empires were built using the fitness oriented mentality in obtaining power and control in years to come. The strength and longevity of an individual was resulted through their physical features. On the other hand, Chinese and Indian used ones physique not just for power but also to prevent diseases and illnesses. Through yoga and martial arts, they were able to recover a sense of control over their bodies fully. In America, the focus on fitness was interchanging for several reasons. America focused on fitness initially to benefits the nations' basic health. However, the great depression lead to a low focus on fitness and more on the financial crisis. However, fitness became a big deal after WII and Cold War as the military had to get into shape to fight wars across the world.
