UAVs

DEFINITION

Unmanned Aerial Vehicle. As the name says it is an aircraft that flies without a pilot on board, and its flight is controlled by a human using remote control or by a computer which can be programmed to do something or to respond to certain situations in a certain way.

HISTORY

As the most technological inventions, UAV were developed during the war and their main application was as weapons or spy tools. During World War l we date the first UAVs, army and navy used “flying bombs” against the enemy, they faced the first flight problems, flight stabilization and recovering the aircrafts.

During the interwar period radio-controlled drones appeared and technology of all kind of aircrafts growth due to the importance in air travel and transportation. Finally in World War ll they start using UAVs with a highest level of autonomy.


REGULATION (Europe)

UAVs were developed for war and right now FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) is worried about if people gives a correct use of these flying tools, for this reason the actual regulation of these aircrafts is really strict. If you are the owner of one UAV or usually are going to fly one of these you must now some of the following rules

You cannot fly your aircraft during the night
You cannot fly your aircraft further than the pilot sight
You cannot fly your aircraft inside a CTR (control zone)
You cannot fly your aircraft in an urban area

POPULAR MANUFACTURERS

Nowadays there is a lot of companies that are in the field of manufacturing UAV. DJI and Parrot are two of the biggest companies in this world (UAVs civil applications).

DJI gives a lot of products that are specialized for each kind of UAV user, for example we can find one of their star products Phantom, which can be used for both an amateur user and a professional user. Moreover they offer products just for professional user as the S1000 which has eight helices and it is able to carry 2Kg cameras.
