Web design is the process of creating and maintaining a website. Web Design encompasses many fields and disciplines such as graphic design,user experience design,interface design,search engine optimization and coding.

Humble Beginnings 1989-1998 In 1989 Tim Berners Lee invented the World Wide Web while working at Cern. The webpages were primarily text based.HTML(Hypertext Markup Language) is one of the building blocks of the web.HTML structures the content of a webpage.CSS(Cascading Style Sheets) alters the appearance of webpages.JavaScript is the programming languages that allow webpages to be interactive.

In 1991 the first website was published. In 1993 a Web Browser,named Mosaic was created.Mosaic was different than other browsers at the time such that the interface was graphics based. As the mid-90s approached web designers began using table based layouts and began to include more graphical elements.Animated text and GIF animations were very common.

In 1996 Flash was developed and enabled more multimedia content such as 3D buttons and moving backgrounds.

During the early 2000s CSS was more supported which allowed separated of the content and appearance of websites.This made websites easier to maintain as well as load faster.Designers began to focus on usability and applied color theory and advanced typography to their designs.
