New Media

According to the New Media Institute: New Media is a 21st Century catchall term used to define all that is related to the internet and the interplay between technology, images and sound. In fact, the definition of new media changes daily, and will continue to do so. New media evolves and morphs continuously. [1]. It's considered to be a new method of communication, mostly through digital platforms.The phrase "new media" also stems from the correlation to "old" media forms, such as print newspapers, magazines, and books. With all the benefits, that new media affords us it is still a catch 22. As we are able to express our opinions with others, like minded or not, meeting new people, even reconnecting with those you lost contact with, but a lot of unpleasantness resides within it. Seemingly harmless activities or interactions with others online can result in a someone obtaining your personal information, whatever is put on the web can be located, there is no such thing as privacy on the internet.

Characteristics of New Media

New media differentiates from old media by incorporating at least three C's. There are 5 C's in total.

The five C's are:

1) communication

2) collaboration

3) community

4) creativity

5) convergence
