New media in generally a term reserved for content that is available on demand through any device connected Internet. This practices generally include interactivity with users with active feedback and creative participation. Such examples include (but are not limited to) blogs, social networks, websites or even video games.

Group Nine

A privately held digital media holding company comprised of Thrillist, NowThis, The Dodo, and Seeker, founded in October 2016 by CEO Ben Lerer. It was created from a deal amounting to $585 million dollars, including $100 million from now parents company Discovery.

Thrillist A New York based online media brand founded in 2004 focused on food, drinks travel and entertainement. In 2010, it aquired online mens fashion retailer JackThreads.

NowThis News Is a left leaning digital news company founded in 2012 by another member of the Lerer family, Kenneth Lerer, former co-founder and chairman of the Huffington Post. By the company's own statistics, 68% of their audience is comprised of millennials between the age of 18 to 24. It received in 2015 a $16.2m investment used to focus more focused channels. It was awarded in March 2013 the “Best App of the Week” award by Digital Trends.

The Dodo An American online published based in New York focused on animals and animals right issues. Launched in 2014 by Izzie Lerer, it has grown to become one of facebook's most popular video publisher.

Seeker A digital media network based in San Francisco, it was founded and is lead by Ben Lerer in 2015. Its focus is on producing and editing videos for its own social platform and Youtube.

BuzzFeed

An Internet Media giant based in New York. BuzzFeed was founded in 2006 and has grown today to generate over $167 Billion dollars in revenue. BuzzFeed's focus is on digital media and digital technology that they describe as being “the most shareable breaking news”. Initially funded as a “viral video lab” by Jonah Peretti and John S. Johnson, Kenneth Lerer (co-founder at Huffington Post) then became a major investor and is now executive chairman at Buzzfeed. Buzzfeed became extremely noteworthy in January 2017, when they released classified documents claiming that Russia had compromising personal and financial information on then President Elect Donald Trump. BuzzFeed is comprised of a multitude of different channels, its most popular being the video series on comfort food Tasty.

Mashable

Created by Pete Cashmore in Scotland in 2005, it was noted by Times to be one of the 25 best blogs in 2009. The website is mainly focused on news diffused through social media, but also reports on technology, business and entertainement. Mashable has aquired in 2009 the "micro critic" service Blippr.
